My microwave beeps at me. Ordinarily, this is not an issue. However, it continually beeps at me until I break down and open the oven door to get whatever is inside. I am not sure why it beeps repeatedly. I would think that the absence of its twin-turbine engine noise would be enough to alert me that it has dutifully completed its task.

It's bad enough that life beeps at you--your alarm clock, your car, your biological clock, etc. I don't need some appliance to constantly impinge upon my consciousness. I have enough to worry about, like, "Is the cat on fire?" or "Do I have enough rumaki for twelve?"

Now I know why the Coyote wants the Road Runner so badly. It's not because he's hungry...
